Three Months Later, Where Is Sundowns' Highly-Rated Signing?

Three months after completing the signing of highly-rated Moroccan defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil, Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach has given an update on the player.

Sundowns completed the signing of the 24-year-old left-footed centre-back in June this year, but due to their congested foreign quota and a delay with his visa, he could not be registered with the Brazilians.

To free up a foreign space, Sundowns made the decision to part ways with Pavol Safranko to clear the way for AB to join the rest of the squad.

Addressing the media after their 1-0 win over AmaZulu, Mokwena provided an update on the player as well as the club’s transfer plans before the window slams closed on Thursday.

“[In terms of] the foreign spaces, we are okay at the moment. We’ve already spoken about that space, and we’ve had to make some very difficult decisions for sure in allowing a player like [Pavol] Safranko to leave. It was not an easy decision because of the quality that he possesses and the person that he is also, but we had to free up a space,” Mokwena told members of the media

“The club will make announcements in due course with regards to AB, so we’ve just got to be a bit more patient in that space.”

“But will we make any more business? I think you’ll see more outgoings than incomings, that’s what I think. At this moment we have far too many players to continue to bring in more,” he concluded.
