Mamelodi Sundowns' late bid for the services of winger Vincent Pule was well received by his club Orlando Pirates, Soccer Laduma can exclusively reveal.

As reported in edition 1309 of the publication, available at your nearest outlet, Sundowns made enquiries about the availability of the services of Pule leading up to the close of the January transfer window.

The Siya crew understands that Pirates were open to making the deal happen if the offer being put on the table was going to satisfy both parties.

According to high-ranking Siya sources, the Buccaneers spent several days behind the scenes making their due diligence but ultimately decided against selling one of their most prized assets.

Soccer Laduma has been led to believe that Sundowns' advances for Pule were motivated by head coach Rulani Mokwena's liking for a player he coached at the Soweto giants.

Indications are that Pirates rejecting the Brazilians' proposal had nothing to do with figures, as Mokwena himself admitted that there are players in the PSL that he personally likes, whether they are regulars or not and that money has never been a stumbling block in signing a player the club has profiled.

"Qualitatively, there are so many players that I like in all the other teams and some of them are not playing, some of them are on the bench, some of them are on the grandstands, for whatever the reason. There's a lot of quality in the PSL," Mokwena said recently on Metro FM Sports.

"We've never had money as the reasons to say no we can't get the player, it would not get to that space because for sure at the end of the day you have to look at the generosity that Motsepe family has."

What could have also complicated matters is that Pule, the Siya crew understands, recently signed a new long-term deal at Pirates, although the club has not yet made an official announcement.
