Pirates To Prioritise Sorting Troublesome Position?

Orlando Pirates is expected to prioritise the search for goalkeeper for next season as part of the changes likely to take place at the club.   

In recent months, the Buccaneers have been linked with a few goalkeepers to fill what has been dubbed as the troublesome position for the team, while the club opted for Sipho Chaine who joined from Chippa United in September.

With the 26-year-old shot-stopper having done well since being given a chance in coach Jose Riveiro’s team in January, the Soweto giants are believed to be looking for another top talent to bolster their goalkeeping department.

Chaine has played in nine consecutive matches in the league and has been one of the reasons the team has remained in the race for a second place finish to qualify for the CAF Champions League.

The Free State-born player has also featured in both matches in the Nedbank Cup as Pirates have qualified the quarterfinals.    

Bucs are having two of their goalkeepers in Richard Ofori and Siyabonga Mpontshane nearing the end of their contracts and the club is said to be considering keeping only one from the experienced duo.

Indications from close sources have been that Ofori is likely to have his deal extended, while Mpontshane is facing uncertain future.

Mpontshane has made five league appearances and one in the MTN8 so far this season. The veteran keeper will be turning 37 next month.
