As Orlando Pirates striker Evidence Makgopa will be aiming for progress when the team returns after the FIFA World Cup, the 22-year-old has got the backing of a former player to succeed at the Soweto giants.

Makgopa is also being closely monitored by Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos who said the forward needs to play at the Buccaneers to reclaim his place in the national team.

The forward was given a run towards the end in both matches against Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively in the Carling Black Label Cup and will hope to build on that progress when the DStv Premiership returns at the end of next month.

The former Baroka FC man hasn't yet featured in the DStv Premiership for Bucs although he has been in the match day squads on a few occasions since recovering from injury.

Former Pirates midfielder Hleza Mofedi has encouraged fans to be patient with Makgopa while the team’s head coach Jose Riveiro is getting him ready.

“Evidence Makgopa is a player who is at the right club at Pirates and at the right time he will play. The Pirates coach knows what he wants from him and is working on getting him ready until he gets a chance to play. The coach doesn’t want to rush him and at the right time he will get his chance,” said Mofedi.

“As soon as the player shows the coach what he wants to see he will get his chance like the other players. There is no doubt that he will play at Pirates and I know that people are in a hurry to see Makgopa playing but like I say the coach knows what he wants from him. But I do feel like he is getting there and people shouldn’t be surprised to see him play and making progress as from January,” the ex-central midfielder added.
