SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has opened up on impressively leading the Tshwane giants to an improved campaign in their 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.

Having endured bad spells with Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United respectively in his previous two roles as results were hard to come by for him which resulted in his short spells at both clubs, Hunt has had a change of fortunes at the Spartans.

The four-time league winning coach has led SuperSport to second place on the log after winning eight from 14 matches so far this season. 

Speaking to journalists after his side’s 1-0 victory over Cape Town City in the Mother City on Tuesday, Hunt commented on the latest developments in his career.

“Nothing has changed. So, they write you off. You know in football you do 950 games and then you do 10 bad games and that happens. It’s important that I stick to what we know and try and keep updated with modern methods, yes. When they say you are an old-fashioned coach, yes, and this and that,” said Hunt.

“Let’s keep up with what we’re doing and try to improve and work on what we need. I know what needs to be done. It’s easy when you can throw money at the situation, but we’re a club that believes in our youth, we’ll build these kids, and we will try and go with them. We’ve got some good ones in the (DStv) Diski (Challenge) and some Cape Town ones as well,” the coach said.
