Having conceded the highest number of goals in five matches so far in the league, Swallows are said to be considering strengthening their goalkeeping department with a former Kaizer Chiefs goalminder.
Swallows FC stand-in coach Musa Nyatama admitted that they have to fix their goalkeeping errors as the Soweto side has conceded seven goals, some of which were blunders from the new signing Thakasani Mbanjwa.
“I am not an expert on goalkeeping matters; we have a goalkeeper coach who is an expert. We will look at our mistakes and see if we can’t fix it,” Nyatama told the media at Dobsonville Stadium.
And with veteran keeper Thela Thela taking up the role of Swallows’ goalkeeper coach and the injured Virgil Vries set to part ways with the Birds, Dylan Kerr’s troops could look to bolster their squad with the addition of Daniel Akpeyi.
As reported by the Siya crew in the latest edition of Soccer Laduma, 1288, Akpeyi is understood to have been offered to Swallows, and according to sources, the club is eager to improve in the new season after avoiding the axe in the 2021/22 season by winning the PSL relegation/promotion play-offs.
Indications are that a goalkeeper will likely join Swallows, and Akpeyi, who has been clubless since leaving Chiefs is a free agent.
The Nigerian international has been training on his own in order to keep fit.
