Gavin Hunt's charges clinched their fourth win in their last five matches and remained two points behind second-placed Richards Bay in third place on the log.
The Citizens, meanwhile, also had a perfect start from a two-month break after beating Royal AM 2-1 last Friday.
Eric Tinkler's charges went up to ninth on the table with 16 points and will be looking to get into the top eight.
Matsatsantsa took four points off City last season, as the edged them in a five-goal thriller after the first round clash ended goalless.
