What's the story?

FIFA 23 will be released on 30 September with a host of exciting new features and upgrades.

EA Sports announced a few new additions to its Icon roster that will be available in FIFA 23 for the first time.

German great Gerd Muller, Real Madrid and Liverpool legend Xabi Alons and Jairzinho from Brazil are three new Icons.

Let's take a closer look at these new playable Icon cards...

FUT 23 ICONS

1974 World Cup winner Gerd is the highest rated Icon from the three. He's rated at 94, 92 and 89.

The prolific German legend scored 68 goals in 62 matches for West Germany and broke a number of Bundesliga records.

"An all-time great of the game, Müller’s legacy and legend live on through his records that only a handful of players have ever come close to touching," says the EA website.

Alonso is at 90, 89 and 87 and plenty of Liverpool fans out there will be delighted to see him included in the Icons roster.

His IQ and unmatched passing range made him one of the greatest midfielders in the modern era.

Winning the Champions League with Liverpool and Real Madrid makes the 2010 World Cup-winning maestro a legend at both European giants.

The third legend is Brazilian winger Jairzinho. The prolific winger remarkably scored in every finals match in Brazil's 1970 FIFA World Cup win.

Known as the Hurricane, he was described as a, "proven goalscorer from the wing with pace to burn and a frightening mix of strength and dribbling ability that took him past defenders with ease, followed by pinpoint finishing that goalkeepers couldn't do much to stop," on EA's website.
