Fictional football team and coach from the award-winning Ted Lasso is set to be in the upcoming FIFA 23.

What's the story? 

A picture from the Ted Lasso show's official Twitter account seemed to have initially confirmed AFC Richmond and Jason Sudekis' fictional American coach Ted Lasso's involvement in FIFA 23.

Jason Sudekis' character was pictured in motion capture rig done for 3D Character Animation and the caption seemed to imply that Ted Lasso will be joining Mario as mustached pixelated character in a game. 

EA Sports has now officially confirmed Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond's inclusion in the game. 

Ted Lasso On FIFA 23

According to PCGamer, news of Ted Lasso's involvement in FIFA has been spoken about for a while now. A Reddit post revealed an in-game picture of AFC Richmond's logo in FIFA 23's menus.

The PCGamer article also reveals that AFC Richmond appeared in a FIFA Rankings database before being removed.

EA Sports' tweet confirming Ted Lasso's involvement in FIFA 23 validates the leaks and rumours.

In a press release, EA Sport confirmed that "you’ll be able to select Ted Lasso as your playable manager in Career Mode, or you can manage AFC Richmond by swapping them into the Premier League or any other playable Career Mode league." 

AFC Richmond will also be playable on Career Mode, Kick-Off, Online Friendlies, and Online Seasons, with their fictional Nelson Road Stadium.

What is Ted Lasso?

Ted Lasso is a multi-award winning TV show starring show-runner Jason Sudekis.

The American filmmaker plays the charismatic and positive American Football coach Ted Lasso who's tasked to save struggling Premier League side AFC Richmond from relegation.

Although Ted was initially hated by the Richmond Rovers fans for his lack of football knowledge, he grows on the public and the fans after a while.

The release date for season 3 isn't clear yet but fictional AFC Richmond will be donning a new Nike strip for the new season and the show secured a license to use real Premier League teams on the show.
