SANTACO has welcomed SARS’s initiative to improve tax compliance in the taxi industry, stressing that operators are not tax evaders and have been working towards formalisation since 2020.

SARS has issued a R39,9 million tax assessment to Mboneni Benedicta Maumela, the mother of Hangwani Maumela.

Sars Commissioner Dr Johnstone Makhubu said the revenue service has expanded the programme to include an additional 200 000 provisional taxpayers with relatively simple tax affairs.

A multidisciplinary team made up of Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation members, White River K9 and Divergent Operations tracked vehicle movements linked to the operation.
