A study called Stress-related diseases – a potential role for nitric oxide revealed that there is a connection between stress and various illnesses. These are the four common illnesses the group of doctors found through their research:

Common cold

If you’re constantly under pressure, your immune system gets compromised, making you more susceptible to colds and flu.

Heart disease

Heart-related problems and illnesses are related to stress as it can directly increase heart rate and blood flow, and causes the release of cholesterol and triglycerides into the blood stream.

Weight gain

Stress hormones stimulate a preference for foods that are full of sugar, starch and fat — that's why we're more likely to reach for  chocolate or comfort food to get through a stressful day at the office. Take note of your eating habits and rather keep healthy snacks close by.

Stomach problems

Although stress doesn't cause ulcers, it can make them worse. Stress is also a common factor in many other gastrointestinal conditions, such as chronic heartburn or gastro esophageal reflux disease and irritable bowel syndrome.
