The Royalty Soapie Awards (RSAs) was dominated by the new television soapie, Isibiya, which stole 10 out of 18 statuettes, leaving the (minimal) rest to be battled over by the other nominees. Isibaya, which airs on Mzansi Magic, channel 161 on DStv scooped all the major awards on the night, including Outstanding Soapie, Outstanding Lead Actor (Siyabonga Twala) and Outstanding Lead Actress (Thembi Nyandeni). SABC2’s 7de Laan took three statuettes during the night. Hennie Jacobs received the Outstanding Supporting Actor award while his co-star, Annelize van der Ryst collected Outstanding Supporting Actress. Outstanding Newcomer went to Simoné Nortmann. Isidingo, The Wild and Binneland nabbed two RSA’s; Binneland winning the Most Popular Soapie through public vote. Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to acting veteran, Sharleen Surtie-Richards for her 30 year contribution to the industry. She has starred on soapies such as Egoli, Generations and 7de Laan. The dazzling event took place at the Durban International Convention Centre just over the weekend, Saturday 8 March.
