5 things to always do after sex

Gynaecologist Dr Sherry Ross told Women’s Health magazine that it’s very important to practice good hygiene in general, and even more when you’re sexually active due to the many bacteria you could potentially catch.

Here’s what you need to do each time after a good dose of sexual intimacy:

Wipe yourself down there

During sex there’s a lot of friction, exchange of bodily fluids and touching. This can provide a great platform for bacteria to spread. A good balance of the vaginal flora is required to keep healthy down there, but the act of sex itself can upset that balance causing you yeast infections. Use a fragrance free soap and warm water and give yourself a good wipe down. Wipe from front to back, and use a clean towel to dry.

Soak in the tub

A long bath after getting some action is always a good idea, right? Firstly it helps you relax and sleep well and secondly, it reduces any vaginal swelling that happened during the process. If you want to turn this into more of a  pamper session add relaxing and moisturising oils like lavender and coconut oil.

Hydrate with water

We’re pretty sure a steamy session will probably leave you out of breath; and water will sort you out. Dehydration can affect your entire body so always ensure that you rehydrate with water.

Eat probiotic foods

Gynaecologist Kelly Kasper mentions on her blog that fermented food and yogurt has the same bacteria cultures found in the vagina. So, eating this on a regular basis can help you boost the good bacteria your body needs to fight infections.

Take a pee

The vagina has the ability to store bacteria due to its moisture and warm nature. Kelly states that it takes only ten minutes for you to catch a UTI hence she advises that you pee within thirty minutes after sex. Urine is sterile and will help wash away some of the germs that may be lurking down there.
