ENERGY Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said the energy generation capacity has shown a great sign of improvement and will now carry out an intensified maintenance plan to power stations across the country.
Ramokgopa revealed this on Sunday, 13 August when he gave an update on the implementation of the energy action plan. He was speaking amid the current power cuts.
Eskom announced stage 1 is in full effect and is expected to be ramped up to stage 3 late in the afternoon at about 4pm on Sunday until 5am on Monday, 14 August.
He said improvements to the grid were witnessed as of last week with generation average currently sitting on 28 929 MW. This improvement can be attributed to electricity demands which have since gone down.

"During winter the demand surged and for us to balance the grid we had to ensure we intensify the stages of load shedding. The expectation now is that we are entering a less server period of cold and demand is going to deeper down," said Ramokgopa.
With the demand decreasing, Ramakgopa said it was equally important to note that maintenance to power stations across the country would be executed and they are expected to gradually increase.
Small businesses are feeling the pinch as costs continue to dig deep in their pockets as they struggle to survive during these crucial times.
Ramagopa said they were not ignorant of the situation and are trying to find an instrument of how best they can be in a position to work with the municipalities to address the situation
