AFTER her traumatic eviction from her home recently, the Collen Mashawana Foundation visited 110-year-old gogo Kenaope Mosidi on Wednesday, 12 October, to see how she is doing.

The gogo's eviction from her Meadowlands home in Soweto trended on social media and touched a lot of people, including the foundation.

The members of the foundation visited the gogo and brought flowers to brighten her day.

The founder, businessman Collen Mashawana, said the gogo was doing well and staying at a nursing home in Joburg.

He said the dispute over the house is being resolved by the gogo's family and the buyer of the house.

"For gogo's safety and health, we have reached out to both parties and requested that we intervene jointly with the Department of Social Development."

Mashawana said they had learnt about gogo's home in North West during their visit and she emphasised that she would like to go back there to be with her family.

"Having confirmed that gogo has a marital home in Rustenburg, where she lived most of her life, we've made arrangements to facilitate her return there. Gogo will be returned safely to her home in the North West. Where we are hard at work making arrangements for her welcome," he said.

Mashawana said seeing their elderly happy is the most heart-warming thing there is.

He urged South Africans to speak up and protect their elderly because they were vulnerable and their rights were often violated.

"Senior citizens are a treasure that should be protected and valued since they hold the key to our heritage," he said.
