UNION is outraged by municipality's alleged spending habits.
The South African Workers Union (Samwu) is outraged by reports that the City of Tshwane allegedly squandered R44 million on a single law firm over a period of three years.
The union said this is while the municipality denied workers a 3,5% and 5,4% increase, but chose to line the pockets of private lawyers at a staggering cost of R1 million per month.
Samwu said this is not just financial mismanagement but betrayal of public trust and a direct attack on the dignity of municipal workers.

The union said some matters should be handled internally and not handed over to profit driven firms that prioritise billing over justice and labour relations.
Samwu regional secretary Donald Monakhisi said these findings were shocking.
"We decided to go further and wrote a letter to the office of the city manager, stating very clearly that we want a breakdown of all the private law firms that are involved.
"For now, there's nothing much to say because we are waiting for a response from the city and we will take things from there," he said.
City of Tshwane spokesman Lindela Mashigo confirmed receiving the letter.
"I cannot say much at the moment, but I can confirm and say yes, we received a letter from Samwu on 17 February 2025. But we have not responded yet. They say they want clarity on the matter, so we will look into it and investigate further," he said.
