The accused demonstrated no remorse, and badmouthed witnesses.

A DRINKING spree at the home of Thabo Mziyane (26) led to an argument as the suspect felt disrespected and wanted to teach Thabo a lesson.

Mlungisi "Bronkor" Tana (37) stabbed Thabo in September 2021.

On Friday, 25 August, the South Gauteng High Court sentenced the Tembisa man to 15 years imprisonment for murder.

Another 12 years were added after the man was linked to a separate robbery.

Mlungisi will, in total, spend 27 years in jail for murder and robbery.

"The deceased and Tana had a brief altercation. Apparently, Tana felt disrespected by Mziyane and felt compelled to 'teach' him a lesson by stabbing him," police spokeswoman Captain Nelda Sekgobela said.

Sekgobela said Mziyane was stabbed twice and certified dead in hospital.

She said Mlungisi was initially arrested for robbery and, through investigation, was positively linked to this murder.

Ivory Park station commander Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo welcomed the conviction.

"The sentence serves the dual task of bringing the much-needed closure to the family of the late Thabo Mziyane and sends a clear message to other equally dangerous criminals that the full might of the law is here to hold us accountable for our actions," said Brigadier Ngcobo.

"Presiding Judge William Karma said the accused demonstrated no remorse, had badmouthed witnesses, accusing them of selling dagga and was still under a suspended sentence handed down on him in 2017," said Sekgobela.
