Lerato Tumahole said she regrets going to Sebokeng Zone 17 Clinic on 23 January

A TRIP to the clinic for family planning has left a mother of three with a hole in her bum.

Now, she's waiting for an operation where doctors will fill it.

Lerato Tumahole said she regrets going to Sebokeng Zone 17 Clinic on 23 January for family planning.

The 30-year-old from Sebokeng Zone 17 in the Vaal said the whole experience left her traumatised.

She told Daily Sun a nurse first injected her at the wrong place and then moved to another spot, which was also the wrong spot.

She said:

I told the nurse she was hurting me, but she became aggressive, saying I shouldn't tell her how to do her job. Days later, my bum started to grow a lump and it was swollen.

She said she visited the clinic for a whole week without any help. She was given pain killers, instead. She said the nurse was also not remorseful when she was asked to apologise.

Lerato revealed to Daily Sun that she had to fight with the nurses to write her a referral letter to the hospital because the pain had become unbearable.

"When I got to Sebokeng Hospital, I needed to undergo surgery to remove the lump where I was injected. At the hospital, doctors told me I should have visited the hospital the first day I felt pain because it was now too late.

"The injection caused serious damage and they had to operate on my bottom because if the lump continued, my bones would be affected. Had the clinic listened to my initial complaints, I wouldn't be where I am. They could have helped me sooner," she said.

Lerato said she'll never go for family planning again.

"I'd rather have as many kids as I can because of what I went through. The worst part is that I have a hole in my bum and doctors are going to cut my hips to fill the hole," she said.

She added:

I sit with one butt on the couch and sleep on one side. That is not how a person should live.

Sedibeng district health spokeswoman, Porcia Gibson said the department was aware of a complaint against Zone 17 Clinic and a preliminary enquiry has begun and an investigation is underway.

"The matter has been referred to the district's quality assurance. At this point, an act of negligence can't be confirmed as we must wait for the outcome. That will then allow us to know what went wrong," said Gibson.
