THE residents of three mountaineer municipalities in the Free state were advised to avoid unnecessary travelling.
This is due to slippery roads as a result of extreme cold weathers with snowfall on the Drakensberg Mountains.
The South African weather service in Bloemfontein warned residents and farmers of Dihlabeng, Phumelela and Maluti-a-Phofung municipalities to be extra careful, wear warm clothes and consider staying indoors.
Weather forecaster Lungile Makondo said the snowfall has a possibility of making roads slippery and may disrupt normal daily activities and harm livestock farming.

"The precautions that need to be taken by the public is to wear warm clothes, stay in shelter, and avoid unnecessary travelling due to slippery roads," he said.
The cold weather is expected to run throughout the week.
Meanwhile, the residents are calling on Eskom to suspend stage 4 load shedding until the end of the cold front.
Sfiso Mthembu, a resident from Tshirela Village, said they rely on electricity to keep their houses warm.
"It's hard to comply with the South African weather service precaution in the absence of electricity. We're forced to go out and seek alternatives which endangers our lives. I wish government can employ disaster officials to monitor situation in every household, especially who live near the mountains," he said.
