Women have been urged to work hard to climb to the leadership ladder.

WOMEN urged to be united and uplift one another.

As we celebrate Women's Month, Mzansi women have been urged to work hard to climb to leadership positions.

The call was made by women in senior law enforcement positions.

Speaking in Boksburg on Friday, 1 August, Ekurhuleni District Police Commissioner, Major-General Anna Sithole, said crime-fighting operations are being planned for various areas.

"We already have plans to collaborate in terms of all the law enforcement agencies. We have kicked-started our operations in all districts and will continue as such until the end of the month," she said.

Sithole said she will take 500 women to Namibia, where they will host a women's conference.

"In that conference, the objective is to empower women, not only senior officers but junior members, including cleaners and others in various departments.

"As senior management, we are going to empower them, and one of the topics to be discussed is the issue of the sexual harassment policy. We will also focus on empowering them in terms of interview skills," said Sithole.

She said they have seen a gap where women struggle when it comes to interviews.

"The application must be thoroughly completed because we know it'll be rejected if there is information that is not there.

"We will take them through on how to fill the application accurately, and obviously, we'll give them skills in terms of when they get to the interview. They should be well-sharpened. We want to see a lot of women being appointed, especially in command structure posts," said Sithole.

Tshwane Metro Police Department Chief Yolanda Faro urged women in law enforcement to stand tall and walk the talk.

"Let us make sure we are walking the talk by empowering ourselves and studying. We need to uplift other women and carry the flag for other women so that they look for role models in law enforcement," she said.

Faro said she wants women to climb to senior positions in their respective fields.

Evelyn Mazibuko, station commander at the Emergency Management Services Ekurhuleni Academy, said she is motivated to see women occupy high positions in law enforcement.

"As women, we shouldn't set boundaries for ourselves. We have to look up to each other. When I joined the EMS, they told me the sky is the limit and I managed to get a senior management position through studying," she said.
