The Buccaneers face arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 31 October, with pride and bragging rights on the line.

Sibisi knows how big the fixture is, but says Pirates must focus on their football and not get carried away by the noise around the derby.

He said the club’s passionate supporters have already helped the players get used to big-match pressure and packed stadiums.

“I think, you know, it’s a big occasion, but we kind of want to play the occasion. We have to play the game as we have been doing throughout the season.

“I think our supporters would have helped us in doing that because everywhere we’ve played, we’ve played sold-out games, and I think the boys have gotten used to the atmosphere. Come Saturday, it’s going to be bigger, that’s for sure, but I think the boys will be able to handle it.”

Sibisi also backed Pirates’ rising stars, saying they have shown what they can do and are willing to learn from the senior players.

The Bucs skipper reckons the youngsters have shown they fit in at this level and feels they’ve got even more to offer.

“Look, I think these boys have showcased a glimpse of what they’re capable of. As young as they are, I think if you are good enough, you’re old enough to be on that pitch,” he added.

He said his job as captain has been made easier because the youngsters listen, take advice and show it on the pitch.

With the derby getting closer, Sibisi and his teammates will want to stay calm, stick to their plan and reward the faith shown in them.

For Pirates, their captain’s message is simple: the stage is big, but the young Bucs are ready.
