BEING in the film industry has always been her dream.

She had always wanted to stay abroad but never envisioned working in this country.

However, when the opportunity arose, she packed her bags and embraced it wholeheartedly.

Robin Kefilwe Mahlabane has been living in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, since 2023, where she works as a film teacher.

The 31-year-old TikTok sensation, actress, and scriptwriter from Hammanskraal, Tshwane, always wanted to explore.

"I knew that coming to this side was going to be a better life. A salary that is tax-free and you are able to do a lot, like take care of my family," she said.

Robin said she studied dramatic arts at Tshwane University of Technology, completed her honours degree at Wits, and then pursued a master's degree.

In August, TV writer Eddie Thaba approached her to intern as a writer for Sibongile & the Dlamini, but she chose the job in Saudi Arabia instead.

"I knew that it was going to be a big job, but I got this job in Saudi, and it was a great opportunity for me, and I still get to be in the film industry. Yes, I'm not fully in it, but I will be teaching."

She decided to engage in acting to maintain her skills.

"I've seen that platform grow from zero to millions of views. I keep myself active through TikTok by acting and writing," she said.

Robin said that, despite making and saving money, she misses home.

"I miss home. I miss my fiance with everything in me. I miss my family and friends. Home is a familiar space. When I'm home, I'm at ease."

Moreover, she said she misses the food from home.

"I miss the meat. The meat in Saudi tastes like nothing. I miss mogodu and kota."
