He stepped outside to answer it when an unknown gunman allegedly shot him twice in the head.

He fell to his knees and died at the scene.

The shooting scene was later visited by Eastern Cape provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Vuyisile Ncata, accompanied by senior police management and forensic and pathology officials.

Police recovered cartridges, ear pods and two cellphones.

The gunman remains at large. The motive for the killing hasn’t yet been established, and no arrests have been made.

Ncata condemned the killing and vowed that police would pursue those responsible.

“This senseless killing has no place in our communities, and we will not rest until those responsible are brought to book,” he said.

He also appealed to anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could help investigators to come forward.

“I urge every resident who saw or heard anything to come forward, because community information is critical to ensuring justice for Luxolo Namette and his family,” he added.

Police investigations are continuing.
