Matlala is in hot water and facing serious charges.

THE Alexandra Magistrates Court was buzzing with tension on Monday, 19 May.

This as flashy businessman and entrepreneur Vusumuzi "Cat" Matlala appeared without his co-accused for a formal bail application.

Matlala is in hot water and facing serious charges of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

The charges stem from a dramatic shooting that took place at a popular nightclub in Sandton, north of Joburg in October 2023.

He's accused of being behind the attempted hit on his former well-known actress and influencer girlfriend, Tebogo Thobejane.

Matlala, who was bust on Wednesday, 14 May, spent the weekend behind bars before his solo court appearance.

His co-accused Musa Kekana and Floyd Mabusela were nowhere to be seen in the courtroom.

Matlala, dressed in a sleek black coat, remained calm and appeared unfazed by the crowd and heavy firepower around him.

Known in Joburg's business and nightlife circles, Matlala has made a name for himself through various ventures in logistics and the entertainment industry.

But now, his flashy lifestyle is under the spotlight, and it seems the law is catching up with him.

The courtroom was packed to the brim with curious onlookers and media people, while heavily armed cops kept a close watch inside and outside. Due to a power outage, the court had no electricity, but the proceedings carried on under tight security and tension.

Magistrate Renier Boshoff postponed the matter to Friday, 30 May, due to the power issues.

"Mr Matlala, the case is postponed to 30 May. You are to remain in custody," he ruled.

Matlala's legal team said that they will proceed with a formal bail application at the next appearance.
