DJ and producer Shimza makes bold moves.
The Thembisa-born 35-year-old artist, whose real name is Ashley Raphala, is widely known for his electrifying Afro-tech sound.
Award-winning Shimza is gearing up to headline Chinois in Ibiza with his international showcase Shimza & Co, set to take place from 8 August 2025.
Shimza took a moment to reflect on his journey from the dusty streets of Thembisa, Ekurhuleni, to global stages.
"It all started in Thembisa as a kid chasing rhythm and dreaming of something bigger," he said.
"From playing at local parties to putting together my own shows, Afro-house became my language. My roots run deep, and everything I do is a reflection of where I come from."
Shimza said music has taken him to places he could only dream of.
"The energy, soul, culture, and music have taken me to places I used to only dream of. From the townships to the biggest stages on Earth. Ibiza has become a second home. A place where I bring myself to the world," he said.

He urged fans to create moments they will never forget and come to see his performances.
Shimza's international tour is already underway, with performances scheduled across the US, the United Kingdom, and France from May onwards.
Beyond his DJ sets, he is also the founder of Kunye, an annual event series that spotlights South African electronic music talent. The event has become a major cultural force, uniting artists and fans through sound and storytelling.
Besides music, on a personal front, Shimza and long-time partner Athi Geleba celebrated 12 years of love in March.
In 2024, Shimza bagged the Best Dance Album at the Metro FM Awards and was nominated for Best International Act at the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA), adding more shine to his already impressive career.
