Lance Stehr said he's happy for Vusi and he supports him.

AWARD-winning musician Vusi Nova has dumped Muthaland Entertainment.

He was with the label for almost 10 years, but he's now starting his own record label called Nova Sounds.

The 38-year-old Ndikuthandile hitmaker spoke to Daily Sun about the move.

"Mostly, it's for growth. I've been with Muthaland since 2014 and learnt a lot from them. I've reached a point where I want to do my own thing and put out everything I've learnt.

"I also want to help young musicians. At my former label, I was doing A&R, checking for new and young talent, so I want to continue doing that. However, I want to do it my way and ensure young musicians get exposed properly," he said.

Vusi said he'll do things differently than other labels.

"Artists need to have a voice in terms of what vision they have for their own brand. Most of the time, what they want is for bosses to see their vision, and it doesn't happen, which is not cool.

"I know my brand, no one knows it more than me, and I believe that's the same thing with all musicians. Record labels need to help artists build their brands, not make them into what they want and change their ideas. Let's treat artists better. They deserve it," he said.

The singer also revealed that his former boss is happy for him.

"Lance and I still have a good relationship. Obviously, he wasn't happy about me leaving. He asked if we could come up with another plan, but I had made up my mind. I want to do things on my own.

"He has experience of over three decades. I have learnt a lot from him, and he supports me with my new journey," Vusi said.

He has signed four artists already under Nova Sounds.

"We will be releasing a new single on Friday, 1 September, the first under my label. It's titled Soze Ndixole by myself, 047 and Kwanda. It's a massive hit. Two other artists will be dropping in the coming months," he said.

Lance Stehr told Daily Sun that he's happy for Vusi.

"I think it's great. It's growth, and after 10 years of being here at Muthaland, I am sure he has learnt something. Artists we have worked with have also gone on to establish their own labels and run them successfully," he said.
