The festival will feature many top musicians to raise awareness against GBV.

MULTI-TALENTED Ukhozi FM presenter Bingelela Mpanza aims to fight gender-based violence (GBV).

The radio presenter and musician will host her Nongoma Big Night Music Festival at KwaLindizwe Sportsground in her hometown on Saturday, 26 April.

The festival will feature many top musicians to raise awareness against GBV.

Bingelela, who presents maskandi show Sigiya Ngengoma, together with Vusizwe Langa on Saturdays, said the event is also aimed at putting Nongoma in the spotlight as the village boasts many heritage sites, including Zulu Royal palaces.

"The main aim is to raise awareness against women and children abuse. GBV is getting out of hand, and we must stop it before it becomes worse," said Bingelela.

"We want to make people understand the bad side of gender-based violence and encourage them to do good."

The 34-year-old radio host said they will also recognise and celebrate community builders.

The lineup includes Babes Wodumo, Thokozani Langa, Mjolisi, Mzukulu, Imfezemnyama, Buselaphi and Menzi, among others.

Bingelela, who also presents a midnight show called Isigqi Sase Afrika on Thursdays, and is also a maskandi musician, recently shocked Mzansi when she announced that she was quitting singing maskandi due to bullying by fans.

She started her music career in 2015 as an Afro-pop musician but after she joined Ukhozi FM as presenter in 2021, she turned to maskandi and released maskandi songs.

Her debut Afro-pop single Isibingelelo was released in 2015 and in 2023, she released two maskandi singles Soka Lami and Ubaba Wami.

Recently, she released her three-songs maskandi EP titled Wangijikela. She described it as her last.
