What was meant to be a night of soulful music turned into a frustrating experience

"WE want sound!"

This chant could be heard during a Women's Day concert at DP World Wanderers Stadium on Saturday, 9 August as frustrated fans struggled to hear their favourite artists perform.

Thousands of fans showed up in high spirits to celebrate Women's Day with performances by international stars, Joe Thomas and Anthony Hamilton.

But what was meant to be a night of soulful music turned into a frustrating experience filled with long pauses, sound glitches and delays.

The sound troubles started during Vusi Nova's set. Visibly irritated, the artist eventually addressed the technical team mid-performance, warning them that he was "going to fight" if the issues weren't resolved.

Things briefly improved during Sjava and Zonke's performances. But the situation worsened once Joe took the stage. After singing two songs, the sound cut out completely, but he continued to perform, unaware that the audience couldn't hear him.

Fans erupted in protest chanting: "We want sound!" and booed the technical crew. Joe walked off stage while the team worked to resolve the issues. In the meantime, the crowd broke into struggle songs to pass the time.

After a long wait, Joe returned and completed his set. Although fans were thrilled to hear their favourite songs, many said they felt disappointed, especially after paying high ticket prices for what they expected to be a flawless event.

Anthony closed the night with a smooth performance, but by then, large groups of attendees were already heading for the exits as the show ran late. Still, he took a moment to thank the audience and wished all women a happy Women's Day.
