UKHOZI FM presenter Phumlani "DJ Sgqemeza" Mbatha is officially a pastor.
Earlier in 2023, the former club DJ who has been with Ukhozi for about 20 years, surprised many when he announced he had stopped drinking alcohol and was a born-again Christian preaching the words of God.
Sgqemeza, who presents Vuka Afrika Breakfast Show alongside Mroza Buthelezi on Ukhozi, was officially anointed as pastor at Christian Fellowship Centre International Church in Pongola, KZN on Saturday, 9 December.
However, he said he'll continue with his radio career while serving God as a pastor.
Sgqemeza from KwaCeza, KZN said before he was anointed as a pastor, he had the chance to attend three ceremonies where pastors were anointed.
"I realised that taking pastors' calling is like being dead in normal life and becoming a slave for Jesus. It's over for the old DJ Sgqemeza because I'm now an ambassador of God. The Bible says let the light of God shine before people and let them praise God through me and not praise me," he said.

He said he is still asking God to help him to be the light that will bring people closer to God.
Sgqemeza was welcomed by the senior pastor, Pastor Nomusa "NP" Mkhize, who told Daily Sun that the church is happy that Sgqemeza answered God's calling to be a pastor.
"We welcome him, and we pray for him that God may help him to stick to His agenda and nothing else. We also pray for him to continue to commit himself to being God's servant and not to be tempted by other things," he said.
